Flights to Sri LankaFlights to Sri Lanka are the best mode of transportation to reach Sri Lanka. The resplendent isle is connected to Europe ,Asia,North America and other parts of the world by flights. Here the flights are operated by Sri Lankan Airline, the flag carrier of Sri Lanka.Sri Lankan Airline is developed enough to operate numerous flights to 51 destinations in 28 countries across the world. There are non-stop flights to Europe,the Middle East,Southeast Asia and the Far East. There are 12 flights fly per week to London,Paris and Frankfurt. This airline is the biggest carrier into Maldives which is the best world wide tourist destination. From these places flights to Sri Lanka are taking people to the Pearl of the Orient( Sri Lanka). Sri Lankan Airlines The Sri Lankan national carrier is the only airline with a direct service to Colombo. Flights are from London Heathrow, terminal 4; 11 flights per week, 3 of which are via Male in the Maldives. Most flights leave London in the afternoon or evening. Sri Lanka airlines was formerly known as Air Lanka. In 1998 the airlines entered into a 10 year strategic partnership with Emirates which has a stake of 43.6% in the company. The government retained majority of the stake in the airlines but gave full control to emirates for investment & management decisions. Thus from 1998 onwards Air Lanka came to be known as Sri Lanka Airlines.
Hubs Bandaranaike International Airport Full name - Colombo Bandaranaike Airport (CMB) Location - The airport is situated 20 miles (32km) from the city of Colombo. Major Destinations The major destinations of the airlines are Asia ( East, South, South East, Middle East) Europe Domestic Among the airports in Sri Lanka ,Bandaranaike International Airport is an international airport while others are domestic airports. Bandaranaike International Airport is the hub of Sri Lankan Airlines. From this airport numerous flights take off to reach 51 destinations in Asia, Europe,Middle East countries and other places. This international airport is administered by Airport and Aviation Services( Sri Lanka) Ltd. On May 3,2007 the officials at the airport announced that the airport will be closed at night keeping security and safety in view .It is expected that such decision will effect 40% of the traffic in and out of Colombo. However several measures are being taken to lessen the burden.The resurfacing of the platform is undergoing at the airports in Sri Lanka. Several steps are being undertaken to connect the airports with other parts of the country. Steps are also taken to link the airport with the heart of the city. |
