On May 3,2007 the officials at the airport announced that the airport will be closed at night keeping security and safety in view .It is expected that such decision will effect 40% of the traffic in and out of Colombo. However several measures are being taken to lessen the burden.The resurfacing of the platform is undergoing at the airports in Sri Lanka. Several steps are being undertaken to connect the airports with other parts of the country. Steps are also taken to link the airport with the heart of the city.
